“Shadow” refers to the safety we have under the “shadow of God’s wings.” A very different meaning of shadow, also in scripture, is a place where one can hide from Light, that is, God’s Light. This Sunday we enter the final week of Jesus’ life: men of power hide in the shadows, putting their fears and greed before any law of God, let alone the Greatest Law of all. This is repeated throughout history, and happening right now in our world. So again we look for a word from God as we watch our beloved Master and Messiah, Healer and Friend, become a victim and victor at the same time. A victim to those who would hide from God’s light, and the victor over the worst we hurl at Jesus Christ and one another.
